The border number is a unique 10-digit entry number, that Jawazat ( Saudi General Directorate Of Passports) issues to every foreign national arriving in Saudi Arabia on a new visa, giving every visitor a distinctive identity.
The Saudi immigration officials write the border number by hand on the passport of the visa holder typically in the Arabic alphabet, beginning with the digit “3“
Every year millions of people leave for Saudi Arabia for pilgrimage, family visits and tourism purpose. In that perspective this unique code helps in identifying each individual entering in KSA and helps to keep their record in Jawazat system.

How To Get Border Number In KSA
The border number is written on your passport usually on the same page where the immigration official stamped your entry into Saudi Arabia.
However, if you can’t find it, you can use the “Query Border Number” service on the Absher portal as described in this guide.
In addition, you can contact “Jawazat” if you can’t check it online.
Find Border Number in The Passport
To check border number in your passport, you have to do the following procedure.
- Open you passport
- Find the page where the immigration officer stamped your entry
- Locate the 10-digit unique number written by hand on the page as shown below in the image.
- Write it down and save it as it is the border number you are looking for.
Check Border Number In Absher
Let’s say you get the border number on your passport but you can’t understand it because it is written in the Arabic alphabet. In that case, you can check border number on Abhser by using “Query Border Number” service.
You can access the service without having an Absher account. All you need is the Visa Number and, Visa Issue Date. And, both details are available on the Saudi Visa, imprinted on your passport. After collecting the details,
- Visit https://absher.sa/query-border-number/
- Select Absher Individuals
- Select “Query Border Number” given under ‘Public Services‘ section on the home page
- Click on GCC Citizens or Non-GCC Citizens
- Enter Visa Number
- Select “Gregorian”
- Enter the Visa issue date in gregorian calendar
- Enter the image code and click on Inquire to check the border number
- You can view border number and the visa holder’s name on the next screen.
The GCC Citizens can enter their GCC ID instead of their passport number
Get Border Number For Family Visit Visa Holders
To check border number for visit visa holders, you can do the following procedure.
- Visit https://absher.sa and log in to the account.
- Click on Service under the “Family Members” section.
- Now click on “Extend Visit Visa”
- Click on “Proceed“
- On the next page, you will find the border number of the visit visa holder along with many other pieces of information, e.g. The date of entry, passport number, visa number, and visit visa expiry date.

Find Border Number With Iqama Number
The expats who possess a resident permit (iqama) in Saudi Arabia, can find the border number by using any of the above methods.
By Visiting Jawazat Office
You can also visit Jawazat if you are unable to figure out the number. Visit the General Directorate of Passports office. Then go to the visa section and inquire about your border number. The officer will provide you with the required information immediately.
Common Error: Border Number Not Found
You might face some difficulty in checking the border number due to a few reasons;
- Difficulty in reading the Border number because written in Arabic
- Visa number entered incorrectly in Absher
- incorrect Visa issuance date
- Absher portal down
Solutions
You can solve the issue in these ways;
- If you can’t read the Arabic alphabet then ask a friend, colleague, or a family member who can read it.
- Re-check the visa number and its issuance date and reenter the details in Absher and repeat the process.
- In case, you are unable to access Absher, it might be due to excessive load on the system. Just wait for a few hours and then try again.
- If you are still unable to know the border number, contact the General Directorate of Passports by calling their helpline “992” or sending an email to “992@gdp.gov.sa”
